Inspired by leading ornithologist Tim Low’s award-winning book, Where Song Began is a musical celebration of Australia’s birds and how they shaped the world. This musical and visual performance interweaves compositions old and new with stunning projections and an immersive natural soundscape.

Audiences are encouraged to contemplate the origin of birdsong and the importance of Australia’s rich and colourful avian history.

Where Song Began is a cross-artform performance piece for all ages featuring:

  • Live music performance of repertoire spanning 300 years, from J.S. Bach to Ross Edwards
  • Evocative visual projections encompassing flight, landscape and courtship
  • Poetry and prose telling the story of songbird evolution
Capacity is limited so bookings are essential. Covid Safe procedures are in place including allocated seating.

Simone Slattery is one of Australia’s most versatile violinists, with a passion for repertoire from a wide range of eras and styles. She performs regularly with ensembles including the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, the Australian Haydn Ensemble, Pinchgut Opera, L’Arpeggiata, and New Vintage Baroque (NYC). In 2018 Simone was awarded a PhD from the University of Adelaide as well as a Churchill Fellowship to investigate historical improvisation. Her playing has been reviewed as “virtuosic”, “exquisite” and “infinitely expressive”. Read more at simoneslattery.com
Anthony Albrecht is a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York City, which he attended on  full scholarship. Since then he has built an international career, performing with the Australian Haydn Ensemble, Pinchgut Opera, Van Diemen’s Band, ARCO, Adelaide Baroque, New Vintage Baroque (NYC), and Classical Opera (London). Passionate about making classical music accessible in the 21st Century, since 2014 he has self-produced an ongoing solo tour of regional Australia called ‘Bach to the Bush’, performing over 70 concerts.
